2007 KY HIMSS Conference Recap
The 4th annual Kentucky Chapter conference was the best on record! The attendees had the opportunity to hear updates on Kentucky’s e-Health and RHIO updates, project management tips, information on the Louisville Health Information Exchange project, discussions on infrastructure issues, EMR software issues, security and regulatory affairs, and display methods & user interfaces.
The attendees enjoyed plenty of opportunities to network, see vendor demos, and spend one-on-one time with the presenters. If nothing else, everyone got a really cool USB drive concealed within a pen! The attendees also enjoyed entertainment offered by Caesar’s Resort and several attendees won a bevy of impressive door prizes.
The conference concluded with the 2nd annual golf tournament. Congratulation to Harold Eder, Marshall Fall, Chris Cook, and Earl Begley for winning the tournament. The foursome nearly set a course record!
Overall, the conference was, once again, a great event. We look forward to the 5th annual conference and hope you can attend!

I am very excited that we are having Bill Felkey at the KHA Annual Convention (May 14th - 16th in Louisville) this year as one of the main speakers to do two presentations on Information Technology in Healthcare - Please check out our convention website or print the attached program. I hope you can come to hear him speak!

Bill G. Felkey has been on the faculty at Auburn University since 1977. He has presented and published over 1100 papers and presentations on topics of computers, health system informatics, use of technology in medical, pharmacy and nursing practice, and management and technology issues in healthcare.
Professor Felkey consults regularly with computer vendors, and with the health systems and medical and pharmacy practices. He has presented to professional audiences in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and over a dozen foreign countries.
His students call him Professor Gadget, and Bill says when you meet him, you will have met the guy who dies with the most toys.
I hope to see you there!

What affect did Daylight Savings Time change have on you?
For healthcare organizations, Daylight Savings Time represented the quiet version of the effort expended on Y2K as it related to the amount of work, resources and costs to ensure the changes did not impact mission critical applications, servers, pc's and any other biomedical device that utilizes date/time stamp functions. For many healthcare IT organizations, the scope of this initiative required the halting of other scheduled and sometimes mission critical projects as it demanded significant resources within hospital IT, corporate IT, biomedical engineers and clinical engineers in order to correct the massive number of devices and computers requiring manual or software updates. Due to the financial, clinical and administrative impact this change has on healthcare organizations across the country, we need to educate our local Congress members and urge them to repeal further changes being considered for Daylight Savings time in the U.S.
Here is a weblog which provides some insight related to the average estimated cost on healthcare IT organizations:
